Another year of classes

We had our first classes today, and I was pretty happy with my schedule.  I’m still not sure whether I want to take 5 classes; I might end up dropping one in a week or two.

The activities fair was in the afternoon, and I was one of the people manning the ping pong table.  We shared a physical table with the chess club, but the lighthearted banter between our clubs soon turned into a fierce competition over which club had the most girls sign up.

Technically, I also attend chess club, but whatever.

The lead changed several times, and it was never too clear who would win.  However, after two exhausting hours of softly-spoken persuasive words as well as violent yelling (different demographics require different tactics for recruitment), I left our station early with a satisfying lead of 3.

First day o’ classes, yo

Today was the first day of classes and I sat through 6 hours of classes continuously from 10 til 4. I decided that I won’t take five classes, since my life sort of sucked last semester when I tried that. This means that I’m dropping Chinese, which is not a decision I take lightly — I really enjoyed studying a language last year, and philosophically I feel that it’s really important to learn languages. As it is, learning Chinese right now is neither terribly important for my future goals nor a way to make my life happier and  more satisfying at the present, so I let it go. Also, it’s an awful choice for a fifth class, since it’s probably more workload-intensive than all of my other courses (except maybe CS).

As for right now:

Danny and Charles are taking apart Danny’s Toshiba laptop which is decently old and was making funny noises. I think nobody has done laptop deconstruction before (although Charles is a pro at building desktop computers) so it was a revealing experience for all.

It's a Toshiba M35X and the fan was making loud noises, causing stuff to slow down.

In other news, it turns out that almost anything you can say when taking a computer apart is prime bait for “That’s what she said!”. Example: “Let’s pry it open to make the entry point bigger”.

Play him off

Today was the first day of classes, and we are all pretty wiped out. On a happier note, I am working hard to make “Keyboard Cat” an official tuba cheer, preferably to be played when the referees skate out during hockey games. Hooray for the HUB.

Keep in mind that I have no idea what kind of posts I’m meant to put on this website. Usually they’re a stream-of-consciousness type of thing that few people want to read, so I’ll do my best to avoid that.
