- Tom isn't apple-ing to any physics grad schools

Did I ever tell you how I feel exactly the same way about all of this?
With a couple of changes.
1. I too took the physics placement test, and although I got a 3, I saw that you were going to take Physics 16 even though you got a 2, so I figured I'd be fine.
2. I did in fact drop Math 25, and went into Math 21 with the attitude of "well I've done some proof-based math before, so this stuff should be pretty easy, plus it seems like I'm smarter than most of the people in my section."
I henceforth got a 54 on the first midterm and a 68 on the second (mean scores both in the 80s).

Also my extracurricular experiences are different, and blossomed later, but otherwise pretty much spot-on.

It's interesting that you are worried that having a good time doing a startup will hurt you in the long term. My goal is just to do something that makes me happy in the short term, and to leave the long-term as an open adventure.
I'm careful to keep my mind sharp and my skills trained and useful so that I can handle the "long term", and I do have a rough idea of what my plan is, but I don't see anything wrong with spontaneity and making life fun and interesting in the short-term, even if this forces me to be more flexible about the long-term.

Charles, I am glad you got some self-reflection out of this. (:
Have a good time in Chicago! Don't let them eat your soul. :P

I try to get ahead on readings in the beginning of the semester when there's less work. Some kinds of work can be done incrementally; I try to work on those during down time between classes, waiting for a bus, etc. For the more routine things (e.g. problem sets for easy classes, readings) I think of finishing them as freeing up more time in the future, which I find to be motivating.

I also generally take sufficiently easy classes. I think ambitious Harvard students have a tendency to take an overly heavy course load. In fact, you can learn quite a lot just reading things on your own.

Why is the velocity low at small distances? I get the flattened part and why but am i right in thinking that the velocity increases with distance for the inner, visible part of the rotation?????????// :-)
